The purpose of the Census is to gather information for:

• Apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives
• Drawing state Legislative Districts
• Distribution of more than $300 billion annually in federal, state, local, and tribal funds
• Evaluation of the success of community programs
• Identification of populations that might be open and responsive to new services
• Determining sites for new businesses
